Vacation, adventures and the halfway mark

Well I guess it has been a little bit since I have posted. As I am typing this, it is about 2:30 in the morning. I have decided to take a spur of the moment vacation to Seoul for a few days. I will be getting on the highspeed train (200+mph) at about 5am. I will post pics and info on this little adventure when I get back.

Well I am offically halfway finished with my time in Korea. August 31st marks 6 months. It has flown by and has been mostly a good experience. I have missed my family and friends a great deal though. I look forward to starting my teaching career back in the states when I get back, providing I am able to get a job, just like the rest of the country.

I recently got done teaching 3 weeks of summer camp. This is simply summer school from 9-12 each weekday. It was a ton of fun as the classes were only 12-14 kids and I was given free reign to have fun with them. One week I actually taught by myself and did nothing but let them watch music videos and watch spongebob square pants in Korean. I guess “Neal Teacher” is a pushover. I love those little guys though and they deserve some fun as they go to school from 9-2 each day and then go to private academys afterwards to about 10 at night. They are usually also in schools on Saturdays. It is sad to see how hard they are pushed and I do everything I can do make them feel better and have fun.

The last day of school, before summer camps started, me and many of the teachers in the school hoped on a charter bus and visited a city about 1 hour north. We were given beers and squid and told to have a good time on the way up there. While there we at tons of raw fish, had crab legs, visited a whale museum and a botanical garden. Pics are posted.

Well being poor and having tons of student loans sucks. Starting tomorrow or the next day, every person I am friends with will be leaving the country to visit some exotic or foreign country. Most are going to Bali, China, Thailand, Malasia or Hong Kong. I will be the only one here in Busan. This will be nice though as I will be fishing, going to the beach, exploring, hiking and doing some Bible study and other fun things.

One really cool thing is that Brett and my college buddy, Ben, will be moving to Busan to teach in the public school system with us at the end of the month. It will be great to have another Gamecock here. Speaking of which, I have met a few others at random times. I was playing basketball with some Koreans at the courts and even saw a guy wearing USC basketball shorts!!!! I am kicking myself bc I didnt get to ask him about them before we left. We left early because Brett is a moron and punched a thinly padded pole after missing one of his many many layups and shots during the game. Needless to say, the pole won.

Well I am off to pack for this little endeavor. I miss everyone and hope that you are doing well. Please keep me in your prayers and may the Lord be with you.
