End of the semester, monsoon season and future plans
Annyeong Hasayo from Busan. Well, a great deal of things have been going on. I guess the biggest news is that tomorrow concludes the end of my first semester teaching in South Korea. I will be teaching 3 weeks of summer English lessons at school from 9-12 each day though. From there I will have my summer vacation from August 11-September 1. I dont know if I will be traveling outside of Korea though. I really want to visit Zak in Japan but am kind of handcuffed financially as I need to save as much money as I can. I am planning on a nice vacation in the winter break China/Japan/Russia/Thailand if possible.
Monsoon season is supposed to end at the end of the month. Thank God…It rains a ton nearly everyday and managed to never be nice on the weekends. I guess its cool as I plan on being at the beach everyday over break. The other day at school it was raining insane so they let all the kids go home after only one class. I laughed but nevertheless loved it. I think the Koreans are afraid of water as they suck at swimming and bc it may mess up their makeup. Tuesday I am going on a school trip with the teachers to another city about an hour and a half away. We will be visiting some museums and eating raw fish and anything else from the ocean. Should be fun.
I have begun planning my next step in my life adventure in education. I am not thrilled that all states have cut tons of teaching jobs for this upcoming year but I hope things will be better in the 2010 year. I will begin applying soon for the “Teaching for America” program. In case you dont know what this is, it is a two year commitment to teach in a really really low income and bad area. They pay really well, offer loan repayment and lots of great things. I will be aiming for a large city like Atlanta, Chicago, Boston, San Fran etc. I am really nervous and trying to not get my hopes real high as it is insanely hard to get accepted. Last year 35,000 people applied and only 4,000 got accepted. The application process can be upto a year and involves tons of interviews, essays, and other stuff. This is a very prestigious program and is insanely good for grad school, future employment and resumes. The alumni program is one of the best in the country. Wish me luck. I also think this will make me an incredibly better person and appreciate education and other ways of life so much more.
Well, I am watching the award winning movie Tremors right now as I am typing this. The American movies they show on TV here are funny. If it is not Steven Seagal its some B list movie haha. Well God Bless and please be safe and in good health. Miss everyone and am ready to get back a bit.
